The Immigration Process in Illinois
In the state of Illinois, you will need to file your I-600A application as soon as possible (there is a copy in your EAC country booklet). When your home study is completed, this agency will send it to immigration for their review. Once this is processed, you will receive an I-171H with Box 1 checked. Copies of this form will need to be sent to EAC and our office. When you receive a referral, this agency will send a visa request with a copy of your home study to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). If you are adopting from Guatemala and choose not to see your child prior to adoption, you will also need to have an Illinios foster care license (our agency will assist you with this process) and a translated medical for the child. Once the DCFS reviews the information and they approve you as adoptive parents, the information is faxed to immigration. The information is reviewed a final time and then an I-171H is sent to you notifying you that a cable has been sent to the country approving you for international adoption.

Our staffs here and at EAC are available to answer questions and act as a liaison with other government agencies. We will do everything in our power to help you through this process in a timely manner.
